A. Departmental Duties:

Portuguese Teacher - Embassy of Brazil - Lebanon

Candidates have until January 23rd to apply for the job at the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Centre. Lebanese nationality or a work and residence visa for the Arab country are required.

The Embassy of Brazil in Beirut has issued an open call to hire a Portuguese language teacher to work at the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Centre. Applications will be accepted until the 23rd this month.

To apply, candidates must be 18 or older at the time of application and have Lebanese nationality, or else a work and residence visa for Lebanon. The position is open to male and female applicants.

Candidates must also be able to communicate in French and/or English, and knowledge of Arabic is desirable. A degree in Languages-Portuguese is also required. In case no candidates have a degree, the embassy may consider people with degrees in other fields.

Applicants will be required to write a composition on Promoting the Portuguese language as a tool for mutual understanding and closer ties between peoples.

Applicants must submit the composition and their resume to the Embassy of Brazil in Beirut. The documentation will be screened and then candidates will be called for interviews.

The results will be announced on February 16th on pin boards at the Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Centre. The salary is 1.725 million Lebanese pounds, equivalent to roughly US$ 3,000. The contract will be valid for one year and the workload is 20 hours per week.

The Brazil-Lebanon Cultural Centre offers Portuguese courses to children and adults. It also regularly hosts Brazilian film sessions, photo exhibits, contests and other activities designed to integrate and publicize Brazilian culture.

The Fine Arts and Foundation Program in the School of Architecture & Design at the Lebanese American University is now accepting applications for Part Time faculty for Spring 2014 in Byblos. The program is seeking faculty to teach the Drawing I course which is directed towards the development of a broad understanding of drawing as a transcription process, and as a plastic means to generating ideas. While initiating experimentation with different drawing materials and investigations in both traditional and new printing techniques, the course aims to gear students towards the development of personal interpretational skills related to image making, media, contexts and environments.

Drawing I:
This course is a study of the basic drawing techniques in various media with regard to landscape, still life, and the human figure. It explores different modes of expressions including notions of perspective in diverse compositions. Assignments emphasize the analysis and the synthesis of visual experience- ie, visual thinking or moving from perception to transcription.

Minimum requirements: Fine Arts degree with Teaching Experience in Drawing.

Duration of position: This position will be open in Fall 2014, renewable in case of mutual interest.

The Dean of Students’ Office in Beirut Campus is currently searching for an Executive Assistant to support the Office in all its clerical and administrative duties.

Basic Functions and Responsibilities:

Business Development Manager - Eastwood College - Lebanon

Eastwood College International (ECI) is a newly founded company aiming to build a network of Schools of the Future across the Middle East. Behind ECI are three founders combining 40 years of experience in setting-up and operating distinguished schools in the region, global and regional top-tier management consulting experience, and global and regional top-tier investment and business development experience. ECI is currently operating out of Mansourieh, Lebanon.

Job Summary
The Business Development Manager role aims to work directly with the founders and support in articulating and driving ECI regional expansion strategy and preparing the ground for new market entries. The strategic objective is to develop a School of the Future model that builds on the existing capabilities of Eastwood College and manage a network of schools in the MENA region.
The key responsibilities entail preparing and maintaining the master project plan, following-up with founders and stakeholders, conducting market research, preparing market analysis, capturing founders’ direction into market entry plans and executive briefs, preparing roadshows, preparing licensing dossiers, and preparing investor presentations.

In particular, the Business Development Manager would attend regular working sessions with ECI founding partners for direction, input, and validations. Business Development Manager would take end–to-end responsibility on required strategic plans and business development documents production and maintenance. Business Development Manager would prepare business development trips and meetings and travel with founders to follow-up and attend relevant meetings. Moreover, the Business Development Manager would follow-up with partners, public authorities, and investors, and take the lead on implementing the agreed targets. Business Development Manager would follow-up with founders and concerned stakeholders, proactively flag risks and issues, and ensure on time and effective delivery against business development objectives. The Business Development Manager would ultimately lead a team of few analysts and admin staff.

The role is based in Mansourieh, Lebanon, and entails occasional travel in the region.
Preferably, the candidate should have 3+ years of experience in the education field in addition business acumen. Candidate should have strong analytical skills and ability to structure and organize ideas and actions in a clear, compelling, and effective manner. Candidate should have strong communication skills, including oral and written, and should be fluent in English. Candidate should have a proven ability to plan, drive execution, and deliver within on time and efficiently. Candidate should demonstrate self-motivation and drive and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

- Collect data and provide analyses for a broad array of issues across disciplines and functional areas. Perform analysis to understand and identify key business issues, outline strategic alternatives and recommend action plans
- Provide oversight and direction to analysts/consultants or support staff and assigned components of project work. Facilitate and participate on cross functional teams in designing business solutions and accomplishing stated goals
- Prepare and deliver presentations to all levels of management and the founders as necessary

Assistant Director of Development - LAU - Lebanon

The Development Office at the Lebanese American University is currently searching for an Assistant Director of Development to assist in fundraising activities for the Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Development (AVP), the Assistant Director of Development is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects up to a giving capacity of $250,000 or more. She/he actively manages a minimum portfolio of at least 100 prospects, in support of the Medical, Nursing & Pharmacy School’s strategic goals, which include: financial aid, internationalization, professorships, and research.

Basic Responsibilities
- Manage a minimum portfolio of at least 100 prospects.
- Engage previous and current donors.
- Build strong relationships with volunteers and committees.
- Conduct a minimum of 200 prospect visits per year and coordinate engagement opportunities for prospects and donors.
- Work closely with Faculty and University administrators as needed.
- Take initiative in identifying new corporate, foundation, government and individual funding sources.
- Collaborate with other development and alumni relations teams, serving as a liaison to the schools of Medicine, Nursing, & Pharmacy.
- Assist with other department activities when asked to do so by the AVP.
- Meet annual fundraising goals as determined in consultation with the AVP.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Masters is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of proven success in fundraising preferably in an education environment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with prospects.
- Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to balance short- and long-term projects.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to take initiative and achieve measurable results.
- Willingness to travel and to occasionally work weekend hours.
