The Office of the Vice President for Student Development and Enrollment Management is seeking a part-time website content editor to update three websites on a daily basis. The websites cater to current and prospective students. Contents are provided by various departments but the content editor is expected to proactively seek new content or updates to keep each website useful and interesting to the intended audience. The candidate will receive training on the Movable Type publishing system.
Over the course of a typical week, the content editor will
- Review every section of the three websites, noting things that need updating.
- Contact the relevant departments for information, as needed.
- Update existing text on various webpages.
- Edit text coming from various sources, to produce clear and concise copy that appeals to the intended visitors.
- Write and post brief announcements for the three homepages.
- Add new webpages and create links to them in relevant places.
- Crop and optimize images using Adobe Photoshop.
- Write captions for photos and upload them to the website.
- Submit events to the Marketing & Communications Department for inclusion in the calendar of activities.
- Contact MarCom to add new links to the navigation system, introduce/modify a special feature, or troubleshoot any issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree.
- Excellent command of English.
- Skillful communicator, audience-oriented writer.
- Knowledge of good practices when writing for the web.
- Some experience writing for periodicals or even better, websites.
- Web savvy. Active user of social media and the web in general.
- Basic knowledge of photo editing (Photoshop) and HTML is a plus.
- Good organization skills.
